Kids Need Vitamins Too

It is important for people of all ages to eat a healthy-well balanced diet at all times. Nutrition is important for children and adults alike, and making healthy eating choices is one of the best things you can teach your children. Of course, teaching your children healthy eating habits is never easy if you yourself are not really sure what foods are good and what types of food are not good for you.

Of course, there are the obvious aspects of human nutrition. The essential vitamins and minerals that must be consumed for proper body function are found in fruits and vegetables, as well as lean meats, yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese. Do any of these foods sound like things you wanted to eat when you were a kid? Probably not. Why waste time eating healthy food when there are other foods out there that taste so much better?

Consider the choices of food you would have made when you were a kid, had you been left to your own devices? Macaroni and Cheese, Hot Dogs, Candy, Pizza, Ice Cream, Chips, Cookies, Pop–not to mention McDonald’s and Burger King. These things are instant gratification.

Don’t get it wrong; these types of foods are included in a well\-rounded diet, but only to a certain extent and one portion far exceeds that extent. These types of foods should be eaten in small portions, and on special occasions, not as a replacement for a healthy meal. It’s easier to eat poorly because it takes less time, although it can amount to more expense in the long run.

Making bad choices in diet is one of the reasons today’s children are so dangerously overweight. Children are no longer getting the vitamins and minerals that should be guaranteed to them each day. The body needs a certain amount of these each day, and while it is capable of making a few on its own, it relies on food to supply the remainder.

Vitamins and minerals are a crucial part of life, from the first breaths of life a baby takes. Vitamin D, one of the most vital vitamins, is essential to the proper development of bones, including teeth. Even Rickets, a disease on the bones that was once a problem, is making a comeback. People who have rickets may have soft or brittle bones, including the skull. It can affect the development of the teeth, ribs, knees, ankles, and severely stunt and retard the growth process.

Vitamins are essential to everything about human beings, from the colors of their hair and skin to how well they see and hear. They help to protect the body against illness and infection, and help to build hormones and red blood cells. They even aid in the circulation of blood and waste through the system!

As long as you ensure that you and your child are eating well balanced diets, a vitamin deficiency will not be a problem. It’s not esy to get kids to heat healthy, but vitamin supplements (even chewable, which taste like candy) are helpful and can be the difference between health problems and problem-free health for your kids.
