Mineral Supplements For Healthy Bodies

For proper function, the body requires that a certain amount of essential minerals are ingested into the body each day. Although the body cannot function without certain minerals, the body does not produce them on its own; in this respect, many have turned to mineral supplements to supplement the vital minerals they are not getting in their diets each day, however there are many people out there that feel mineral supplements are being abused, and that they should restrict their availability to by prescription only. Certain Minerals are Essential to the Body Essential minerals are labeled so because they are just that, essential. The essential minerals are the minerals that are most vital to maintaining a quality, healthy lifestyle. Calcium, magnesium, and iron are three of the most important minerals that the body needs each day. Calcium and magnesium help bones to grow and stay strong; Iron is necessary to maintain a good red blood cell count, and helps to transport oxygen throughout the body. There are countless other essential minerals that help the body to produce important hormones, fight infections, and help the most important bodily organs to function properly–or at all. The controversy when it comes to mineral supplements is that many of the people who are the most health conscious are often the ones who seek mineral supplements, yet they get their allowance through a healthy diet of fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and lean meats. Minerals are not water soluble, so they are not as easily eliminated from the body as vitamins are. There is a danger involved in excessive amounts of minerals; excessive amounts of minerals can lead to death. Those who oppose restricting mineral supplements are usually either belonging to or on behalf of those who do not eat a healthy diet. They eat fast food, restaurant food or even worse–not enough or no food. Also, there are the special few who are on select diets due to medical conditions, or even those who knowingly exclude meat and/or dairy from their diets. In such instances, mineral supplements are necessary and even helpful. Of course it is always advisable to talk to your medical provider before deciding to take a mineral supplement. Let your doctor know all the details of how you normally eat, how often, and let them know of any other medical conditions you may be dealing with at the time. They should be able to advise you on whether mineral supplements are a good idea. In a mineral supplement, look for a brand name that you trust. Just because a supplement is cheap and looks like it contains more doesnt always mean it is better. Choose a mineral supplement that contains not only minerals but also vital antioxidants and vitamins as well. Also, dont over-do it. Tripling up on your dosage can only have a deleterious effect on your health; it will not triple the benefits of the supplement. Dont take mineral supplements to replace the normal minerals you would be getting into your body through your normal eating habits. They are a supplement, not a replacement. Technorati tags:
